How to Achieve Fair, Radiant Skin

What is pigmentation?

Pigmentation is the skin's natural way of producing melatonin to protect itself. The pigment is able to dissipate over 99.9% of absorbed UV radiation, therefore protecting cells from UVB radiation damage, reducing the risk of cancer.

Why do we suddenly discover patches on our skin?

These patches are called pigmentation which usually appears in your 30s or 40s. It can be due to the following:-

  • genetics
  • sun exposure
  • stress
  • fluctuating hormones caused by pregnancy and or birth control pills, menopause
  • insulin resistance
  • damage to skin due to injury
  • overly aggressive skin care treatment or frequent use of hair dyes.
Freckles is genetic, but sun damage can cause excessive and uneven freckles.

Pigmentation don't appear overnight. It usually is an accumulation of sun damage, or health problems, or injuries or inappropriate skincare treatments over many years. Normally, it takes 10-20years of accumulation of pigments before it is very visible.

How to prevent pigmentation?

  • Always use a sunblock on your face and neck from the time you wash up, even though you may be at home. Start as young as from 8 years old.
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water/juices per day excluding tea and coffee.
  • Have a healthy lifestyle. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, avoid fried foods.

Can laser treatments keep pigmentation from appearing?

Actually this only temporarily gets rid of the pigmentation. Everytime, a laser treatment is performed, skin is actually artificially burnt by the laser beam. Although on the surface, the skin seems to recover when the outer layer of the skin peels off, actually more harm was being done to the basal layer of the skin. And artificially burning your skin this way causes internal inflammation to occur. When done continuously, many times, skin gets thinner and thinner and becomes more sensitive. And one day, the skin will become so sensitive that laser treatment can no longer be performed on your skin to get rid of the pigmentation. Relying on this type of treatment, eventually brings more problems to your skin. Eg. skin redness, dryness and super sensitive skin arise due to these accumulated, continuous laser treatments. So friends, do you want to increase your skin problems by subjecting your skin to this type of treatments?

If laser treatment is not recommended, what is the long term solution?

  • Choose a good skin radiance product from a good company that continuously does R&D with breakthrough every few years.
  • Beware of companies that uses ingredients with high percentage of acids(7%) as these tends to make your skin very dry and sometimes may over peel your skin, leaving it red and sensitive. Do not rely on AHA product for long term. AHA is only good for temporary radiant skin. Prolong AHA use many years, only increases skin's sensitivity and dryness and eventually skin will lose its radiance when it is too dry. And dry skin brings on fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Beware of companies that uses chemical ingredients that can 'whiten' face in a short span of 2months. 'Whitening' products usually uses bleaching chemicals and these ingredients are very effective but not safe(chemicals that clinically proven to cause cancer over long term use). I am sure, we do not want to look fair and white and have terminal disease because of that.
  • Currently, 'whitening' products are not in the trend anymore as the top 5 skincare companies in the world have researched breakthrough ingredients in products that brightens skin and not just whiten skin. These top 5 prestige skincare companies are Artistry, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Clinique and Chanel.

How to look younger despite Aging

Aging is a natural process.
It cannot be reversed nor prevented.
However, it can be slowed down.
Our Skin usually tells others our age.
The most common factors of Skin Aging were from Pollution, Sun, Humidity, Free Radicals, Temperature changes, normal aging, Wind.

Whenever we see a dark spot or fine lines or wrinkles, we usually thought that we have done damaging to our skin recently. Eg I haven't been resting enough, or I have aged ever since having a baby, or I am in my 30s, I had too much alcohol lately, etc....

However, the astonishing fact is -- while you were sunbathing or at the beach not wearing any sunscreen while you were a teenager or even before 10 years old, the damage was already done. While you were not sleeping playing mahjong, or overnight staying up in a chalet, or partying till the morning, the damage is slowly accumulated in your skin.

This chart below shows the different signs of aging. The start of the arrow indicates the starting point of damage and at the pointed tip if the arrow indicates the age where all the accumulated damage shows up.

So, friends, never think that never mind, I have this miracle cream to help. To reverse the damage is impossible. The only way to prevent skin damage, is not to do it in the first place. And to help the skin recover by generating good new cells by giving it correct nutrition.

This is a picture of young healthy skin.

This is a picture of an aging, damaged, unhealthy skin.

If you are in your 20s and want to look young in your 40s, start taking care of your skin now.

If you are already in your 40s and the damage had already been done, greater money and efforts need to be put in to help your skin generate new cells in order that fine lines and wrinkles do not appear so fast and so prominently.

Me and my friends have used some awesome products at a fraction of beauty salon prices that was safe to use at the comfort of our home and delivered results.

I will explain in detail in my upcoming posts on HOW to achieve that. So stay tuned.

Natural Korean Makeup Look

How to achieve the Korean style flawless make-up look?

There are a few things to note.

1) Face make-up to look flawless with radiant glow.
2) Brows to look light and natural.
3) Lips with pale pink, pink or orange hue. Sometimes without clear defined outline.
4) Little or no blusher at the cheeks.
5) Defined eyes.

1) Face Make-up.
Done lightly with 3D light refracting foundation lightly dusted with 3D light refracting loose powder.

For those who have pimple skin, or rough skin with scarring from pimples, open pores, fine lines and wrinkles, it is very challenging to attempt to do this type of make-up. A concealer needs to be skillfully applied and blended to cover those big pores and scars. If not done properly, this would only expose your flaws and make you look awful. Highlight is necessary, however, must be applied together with loose powder.

For those blessed with good skin or skin without scars or no open pores and without fine lines or wrinkles, you could attempt this style of make up with a breeze. However, less is more. Do not overdo it, otherwise, instead of looking radiant, you will look very shiny.

2) Brows to light and natural.
Color -Use brow pencils where their colors were lighter than your own brows.  If unable to get light colored brow pencils, you can also use light colored eye shadow.

Shape - Create a natural looking brow similar to the curves of your brow bone. Do not create very high arch like the eyebrows of those super models.

Thickness - Usually thicker. However, as brow was light colored, it is perfectly alright. Even though it is thicker, it will look very natural.

3) Lips with pale pink, pink or orange hue. Sometimes without clear defined outline.
Lip Color is usually very natural pink or orange. Line your lips with a pale lip liner, then, use a stronger tint to apply at the center of the lips closer to the teeth. Then apply a pink lipstick or lip gloss. Note that if the color is too strong, blot off once with a tissue. Then apply lip gloss over it.  Apply sparingly. If too shiny, blot off a little.

4) Little or no blusher at the cheeks.
Blusher color is usually very light pink. Apply very little just slightly below the cheek bones to give a more defined face shape.

5) Defined eyes
Your eyes are the windows to your soul. It can make you look bright.

Eyeshadows - natural browns, kakis, yellows and black.
Apply yellow or light color near the brow bone under the arch of your brows.
Then use a kaki or light brown on the lid - apply only half of the lid and blend out toward the yellow.
Very near the eyes, use black, brown or grey and blend. Do not blend up too much.

Natural looking eyelashes can be used. Or just mascara. Those that can lengthen well like fibre mascara does wonders. You can apply 2 to 3 coats of mascara. Just take note that it is not clumpy or over apply.
Eyeliner - can use pencil or liquid. If liquid, must be skillfully applied. At the upper lid, not too thick near the inner eyes then can be thicker towards the outer eye. Lower lid, also thin near inner eyes and thicker towards the outer eye. In order to give the outer eye a softer look, black or grey can be used. Blend in with the eyeliner.

6) Final Touch Up
Use a powdered or cream highlighter, to highlight the top of your forehead and the whole strip on top of your nose. At the inner corner and lower eye lid, and a little at the centre of the upper eye lid. And at the top of your lips and slightly above the chin.
